January 2016 ushered in a new wave of hashtags that have left me baffled. Basically what these men (the ones that swung first) are doing is giving sentence long instructions on how you can insult and embarrass women all while slapping a cute number sign in front of it, giving birth to #wastehertime2016.
The #wastehertime2016 tweets and memes were actually kind of funny but it couldn’t be a real movement without rebuttal. Oh yea, the ladies aren’t crying in 2016! Women took to twitter blazing #wastehistime2016 messages like…

People have given mixed reactions to the tweets, some enjoying the petty sparring while others are disgusted by it. Some were downright mean – who are these evil geniuses? I thought though, isn’t it sort of redundant, because while you’re wasting his or her time, are you not really just wasting your time? In my opinion everyone should be too busy making positive moves to be inclined to waste time, it’s too darn precious.
When I inquired about who really started the movement, one Facebooker said, “The government.” WHOA – conspiracy theory without giving me a theory?? Don’t be so paranoid…
Or is it paranoia?
Despite my enjoying the creativity of the #wasteher/histime hashtags, my mind (as it often works at times) flashed back to another movement that took over in 2015, #blacklivesmatter.
It seems the blaze of #blacklivesmatter has been put out by the deflection of a lighter, comical and more politically correct hashtag that all people can jump on the bandwagon with. It is easier to digest wasting time rather than losing lives. It also opens a new forum of discussion up, deflection, that’s exactly how it works.
So, whether it was the government or maybe some other social organization that got tired of hearing how much black lives matter, with black lives being lost every day I feel the hashtag is still rather relevant. If you wondered if the #blacklivesmatter movement has vanished you can rest easy knowing that it hasn’t. People continue to shout out ,“Black lives matter” but it appears their voices aren’t as loud as the ones who are about wasting time.
2016 should be a year of progression. We need to tackle real issues head on because, it’s a waste of time deflecting.
