Neo Soul & Funk are two genres you rarely hear about when referring to recording artist here in the 242, but female duo D&V took up the challenge and brought “Melanin” to life. Melanin is a sexy and funky track with an equally as funky visual treatment to match, and is quickly becoming an ear worm in the local music circles.
The team at eLIFE 242 was happy to see musical artist taking risk and moving out of the rap and r&b genres to dabble in the neo soul orbit.
D&V is made up of D’Nette and Velmanique and is an upcoming 242 power house that we look forward to hearing more creative and funky tracks from. When asked about “Melanin” they said:
“Melanin” is an ode to the 70’s era when black self love was prevalent and encouraged. It is an anthem that expresses a sure sense of self despite the obstacles melanated people have faced, and will continue to overcome.
